The Story

Some provinces make you pick.

Mountain or beach. Highland or coast. Batangas answers by handing you both before lunch.

Taal is the impossible one. A volcano sitting on an island in a lake, carrying a crater lake of its own. People draw it wrong because it does not sound real.

Then the coast. Anilao, where diving in this country started, still pulling photographers who have already shot everywhere else. Laiya on a long weekend, when half of Manila drives south. The ferries leaving the port for Mindoro. And in between, Lipa, where the coffee came from. Barako, thick and bitter, drunk without apology and usually without sugar. In Taal town they still fold balisong by hand.

The Batangas Tee draws the sun coming up over both halves. Twin peaks, wave lines, one small boat. On the chest, the mark and the coordinates.
