The Story

On October 20, 1944, a general stepped off a landing craft into the waters of Leyte Gulf and said the words that history would remember: "I have returned."

But Leyte's story is older and deeper than any single moment.

It is the island of Yolanda survivors who rebuilt their lives with their bare hands and refused to let a supertyphoon be their final chapter. It is the home of Mount Pangasugan, draped in forests so thick they hold the clouds. It is the island connected to Samar by San Juanico Bridge, the longest bridge in the Philippines, stretching across the strait like two hands reaching for each other.

Leyte is where courage lives. Where history crossed. Where journeys began.
