The Story

Every Filipino knows the way home, even from the other side of the world.

Balay is the word for house in Cebu, and in Iloilo, Tacloban and Laoag too. Manila says bahay. Batanes says vahay. Everywhere, it means more than walls. It means the kitchen where someone always saved you a plate. The wooden steps that creaked under your lolo's feet. The sound of rain on a roof you could name in the dark.

The house on this shirt is the oldest kind we have. Bamboo walls, a nipa roof, posts lifting it above the flood, a ladder that asks only that you climb. When a family had to move, the whole village carried it on their shoulders. That is bayanihan in its oldest picture: one balay, many hands.

The Balay Tee is for everyone building one. The OFW sending the next payment on a lot back in the province. The couple unlocking their first apartment in the city. The one who left Cebu at nineteen and still calls it balay at forty. The one whose home is a voice on a video call at six in the morning, Hong Kong time.
